Perkins Eastman planned and designed the development of the Wuxi Taihu New Town Women’s & Children’s Hospital. The site is in two parts, divided by a small river, in a new development area outside the city. The Southern Site, facing the main road, includes a seven story, 12,000 sm Ambulatory Care Center facility. A large pedestrian plaza and roof garden with café, offering a view of the landscaped site, will also be incorporated. An entrance boulevard offers a clear view of the hospital entrance beyond.
The Northern Site accommodates two gently curved South-facing Hospital inpatient towers with a total capacity of 600 to 800 beds, in private, two-bed, and VIP rooms. The two towers flank a curved atrium lobby which continues the patient-centered design theme with five levels of public space and a retail galleria of health-related services. Parking for 2,500 cars is provided in basement levels.
The site has expansion space for future Ambulatory and Hospital buildings.
