To create an engaging and secure venue for community services and recreational programs reflective of the unique characteristics of local Native American and Hispanic culture for The City of Anaheim, Betsey Olenick Dougherty designed a new community center and park for Ponderosa Park prior to joining Perkins Eastman. Engaging adults and children from the neighborhood, as well as city administrators and community leaders, the team designed replacement facilities including a new skate park, and a Family Resource Building. The sustainable LEED Gold new building houses a secure WIC location, a remote security office, a teen center, a teaching kitchen, and spaces for native dance, music, arts and crafts. The park site has been reconstructed to accommodate a new community garden, restrooms, playgrounds, a splash pad, and picnic areas where community members can enjoy days in the sun with one another.
