A global center for Health and healing, Mayo Clinic Destination Medical Center is the largest economic development project in the history of the State of Minnesota. Perkins Eastman designed a visionary and achievable master plan that will transform Rochester’s downtown skyline and streetscape. Market-driven and flexible, the 20-year multi-phase plan allows the Center to incrementally embrace and leverage evolving characteristics, demographics, and development opportunities of its hometown. After studying the essential characteristics of each neighborhood in the area, the design team worked collaboratively to develop a vision to expand Mayo’s mission by integrating with and building the city around it. The plan combines the aspirations of both the Mayo Clinic and the City of Rochester by fully integrating new programs that support business, residential, and institutional uses to create flexible and inclusive spaces accessible to all. Positioned to be a beacon of sustainable design and development in the region that fosters healthy living and working environments, the Center will enhance the lives of locals, attract new residents and top talent, and encourage visits from people across the region and beyond.
