Civic Center Station

Civic Center Station

Denver, CO

An imaginative new urban space that has both function and form, serving transit riders and attracting the greater public.

On one of the Denver’s most trafficked thoroughfares, Civic Center Station integrates urban life, mixed-use development, and transit right in the shadow of the Colorado State Capital. Recasting an aging RTD bus terminal and failing plaza roof as a vibrant public space and state-of-the-art transit facility, Perkins Eastman’s design capitalizes on the station’s unique and important location in the downtown. The design plan creates a unique place that brings together all modes of transit and creates a direct link to Union Station. Looking at the movement of people through the city as an experiential event, the design team created a vital part of the city fabric and established Civic Center Square as a destination for Coloradans and visitors in the heart of the city.
