Severely affected by Superstorm Sandy, The City of Hoboken experienced extreme flooding due to inadequate stormwater infrastructure. Perkins Eastman created the Hoboken Green Infrastructure Strategic Plan, seeking to develop place-based stormwater management and flood control strategies and identify implementable climate adaptation measures. The plan mitigates future flooding events, focusing on cost-effective green infrastructure comprised of vegetation, soil, and a detention basin system that all reduce stress on traditional drainage systems. Part of North Jersey’s Regional Plan for Sustainable Development, the project is a joint effort with The City of Hoboken, Hudson County, North Hudson Sewerage Authority, Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken Quality of Life Coalition, and HOPES Community Action Partnership, Inc.
