Located in the basement of the Olympic Tower, the Onassis Cultural Center was in need of a renewed presence worthy of its midtown Manhattan location. Perkins Eastman’s design for upgrades enhances the Center’s user-friendliness and increases awareness of its exhibits and events. The design team transformed the existing street-level atrium by relocating the Center’s entrance, incorporating an all-glass stair, and making significant improvements to an existing water feature. The generous new foyer is suffused with sunlight and gives the institution a welcoming new façade, making the public amenities more visible and accessible from the street. Enlargements to galleries and raised ceilings throughout the space complete the transformation, making Onassis Cultural Center a more desirable destination for the community.
