To rectify a housing shortage at the University of Maryland and meet the expectations of students, Toll Brothers Campus Living desired a modern high-end student residence. Perkins Eastman’s hospitality interior design team, ForrestPerkins, designed the amenity spaces for three buildings, creating a contemporary living and study environment targeting different age groups. The largest building is intended to appeal the most to younger students looking for an interactive living situation, while the two other buildings include smaller lounges, study spaces, and outdoor courtyards fostering a quieter living experience that upperclassmen might prefer. Throughout Terrapin Row, intimate hubs, open lounges, game rooms, an on-site fitness center, and dynamic outdoor spaces all contribute to a vibrant community. A palette of warm materials, including reclaimed woods and brick walls, and pops of red and orange combine with clean lines in the fresh interiors. Student lounges include custom murals and sculptural lighting, accents which add a youthful energy to homier touches like gas fireplaces.
