This loft-style, 12-story tower features 136 apartment units closely integrated into a neighborhood that celebrates its green streets, a unique urban watershed, and a city park dedicated to community gardening. The project’s resident amenities include an expansive roof deck and a library-themed common area that overlooks the park and Elliott Bay beyond. Located just a few blocks north of the Pike Place Public Market and within sight of the Space Needle, the project combines a pristine glass cube situated over a brick-clad base scaled to the existing context of the Belltown neighborhood. Executed in direct response to its environment, all roof-water runoff is channeled through expressive open runnels to a system of exposed low dams, called weirs, in the lushly planted edge of Vine Street, forming a critical link in the neighborhood fabric. Artist-made building parts combined with creative detailing of standard building components contribute to the “sense of place” created at Walton Lofts. The Walton Lofts was the 2016 Daily Journal of Commerce Building of the Year runner-up.
This project was completed by VIA prior to becoming a Perkins Eastman Studio.
