The Springs is situated within a vibrant waterfront neighborhood east of Vancouver, where a new church serves as its cornerstone—both literally and figuratively—and a gathering space for the community. In addition to the church, The Springs’ redevelopment includes 55 units of affordable housing in the form of stacked town homes and apartments, a two-story commercial space, and the church. The commercial space includes support services for people with developmental disabilities and their families. VIA delivered core and shell design for both the residential and commercial sections, in addition to construction support for the tenant fit-out. To meet the client’s budget, VIA worked with the team to refashion the two-story church building from concrete to wood-frame construction. Ease of construction, plus cost, also informed product selection throughout.
This project was designed by VIA prior to becoming a Perkins Eastman Studio.
