This golf-infused sports bar in New York City is the latest vision in sports entertainment, blending the worlds of dining, music, sports programming, and gameplay such as golf simulation, duckpin bowling, and darts. The project, a brainchild of investors Tiger Woods and Justin Timberlake, was brought to Perkins Eastman and ForrestPerkins by NEXUS Luxury Collection, who asked the firm to reimagine the grand lobby of the 1968 Emigrants Savings Bank in the heart of Manhattan, between Bryant Park and Grand Central Terminal. Perkins Eastman was the architect of record and ForrestPerkins directed the interior design.
The architecture and design teams transformed the gracious space into an immersive experience that combines the sophistication of upscale design and the sports entertainment theme that Woods and Timberlake envisioned. ForrestPerkins crafted every detail to bring their vision to life, including their wish for a 50-foot-long golf-bag art installation; Duckpin bowling lanes that feel like an intimate boutique; private state-of-the-art swing suites; and other intimate gaming spaces. The dining experience is central to the sports club theme, featuring “box seating” that surrounds a central bar serving craft cocktails beneath a 200-inch television, the largest flat screen in New York City.
The 22,000 square-foot space spans a full city block between East 42nd and East 43rd streets, and it capitalizes on the bank building’s original architecture designed by Emery Roth & Sons. The interior design creates an upscale New York City club atmosphere with a masculine and modern twist. The design features custom wall coverings, hand-glazed tiles, brass accents, and plush lounge furnishings that will make people want to stay a while.
