Swope Health Village is dedicated to enhancing community health and wellness by offering accessible, high-quality care at a new campus in the heart of Kansas City’s Town Fork Creek neighborhood.

The village will feature 174 senior living apartments, 72 behavioral health rooms, a health clinic, a community services building, and an adaptive reuse of the historic St. Louis Catholic Church. Located along Swope Parkway in Southeast Kansas City, between Swope Park and Swope Health, the development lies within Town Fork Creek, historically one of the few neighborhoods where middle-class African American families could buy a home. Today, it remains a vibrant, intergenerational community where local residents and city leaders are active in preserving and elevating its culture.

The master plan, shaped by input from Swope Health and community partners, reflects a commitment to addressing the village’s core needs while honoring its rich history. The design creates a barrier-free village—a community that removes physical and social obstacles to ensure full accessibility for all residents, regardless of mobility or abilities. As a result, various buildings are integrated through organic landscaping and accessible pathways, fostering intergenerational community interaction. Other key aspects include enhancing the development’s visibility from the Swope Parkway street edge, seamlessly integrating senior living into the neighborhood, and locating its behavioral health services at one end of the site to provide clients with a serene residential environment. Through collaboration between the design team, Swope Health, and community stakeholders, the plan delivers an inclusive, welcoming village that meets Town Fork Creek’s long-standing health and wellness needs.
