RiverCenter for the Performing Arts

Columbus, GA

A new performing arts center serves both campus and community at Columbus State University.

The master plan, programming, and design for the RiverCenter for the Performing Arts, a joint-use facility with Columbus State University and the community, integrates professional performance spaces with educational performance venues and teaching spaces. Architecturally, the center echoes the local brick vernacular (Columbus was once a vibrant center for brick production) while offering a contemporary image that speaks to future generations.

The center’s highlights include a 2,000-seat multi-purpose hall suitable for touring Broadway shows, a 450-seat recital hall designed solely for music, and a 150-seat experimental theater with moveable seating and staging areas to meet a wide range of university and community performance needs.

This project was master planned, programmed, and designed by Pfeiffer prior to joining Perkins Eastman.
