As part of the New York State Department of Health’s Health Care Facilities Transformation Program, One Brooklyn Health System (OBHS) was awarded $664 million in capital funding to address chronic social, economic, and health disparities—and transform central Brooklyn.

One of the transformation projects was to renovate multiple floors and clinical spaces over three phases at the Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center (KJMC). The first phase addresses  the entry lobby and introduces a healing garden at the ground level. The second phase includes the second and third floor renovations for inpatient pediatric bedrooms. The culminating third phase will renew floors 9 and 10 for the 80-bed young adult rehab program.

OBHS, KJMC, and the Perkins Eastman design team engaged the neighboring community to design an all-inclusive environment within the institution. The renovation designs also draw inspiration from the vast greenery and beloved landmarks in nearby Prospect Park. The result is a fresh and contemporary aesthetic that will serve as an attractive feature healing element for the facility’s young patients.
