Hollywood & Highland

Los Angeles, CA

A one-of-a-kind retail and entertainment destination which celebrates both historical and fictional elements of the famed Hollywood Boulevard.

Hollywood has always been two places: a real place and a place of legend, the home of the film industry and the myth of glamour and fame. For the design for Hollywood & Highland, EE&K looked to capture the Hollywood Boulevard’s 1920s heyday and unite the reality and mythology prior to joining Perkins. The design team created a new mix of uses anchored by a marquee theater that plays host to the annual Academy Awards. The development also includes an expanded and updated hotel, and a variety dining and retail establishments. Located atop a busy Metro station and at one of the region’s busiest intersections, the project is one of Los Angeles’ first Transit Oriented Developments and is heralded as the catalytic project responsible for the modern day revitalization of Hollywood. Visitors to Hollwood & Highland are treated to a series of public spaces which serve both as forecourts and as outdoor stages, yielding a complex circulation pattern of surprise and discovery with the starry “Walk of Fame” sidewalk. A monumental stair draws visitors to the central public space with a unique view of the iconic Hollywood sign in the hills beyond.
