To create a luxury boutique hotel on New York City’s iconic Fifth Avenue at West 28th Street, Perkins Eastman gave new life to a historic building and designed a modern landmark tower. The team worked with the developers, operators, and PBDW Architects to analyze the opportunity and envision a lifestyle destination. A former bank designed in the early 1900s by McKim, Mead & White provided the ideal base. The historic structure’s restoration and the new tower are both suited for the landmark-protected neighborhood. With precast concrete and stone cladding and metal frame windows arranged in striking vertical sets, the tower brings renewed visual interest to 28th Street. Welcoming guests inside, a vaulted two-story space in the re-adapted bank includes a signature restaurant, lounges, ballroom, and hotel amenities. Spacious private suites overlooking Fifth Avenue and guest rooms spread throughout both buildings provide a relaxing atmosphere in the heart of the city.
