Perkins Eastman and Gilbane Builders are delivering this design-build education center to the East Side Union High School District. It provides a transition-to-independence program for young adults with physical, social, emotional, or learning challenges. The program offers participants an opportunity to practice vocational and life skills in a communal setting that provides support through specialized instructional and counseling staff, mentors, and role models. Inherent flexibility in a resilient floor plan allows for change in the physical environment to support new ideas and methods as they evolve over the future. Participants improve and reinforce interpersonal relationships, independent living, and job skills, while at the same time building personal resilience and self-determination.
