Principal

“Architecture is a way for people to communicate with their surroundings. I am humbled to be a voice in that conversation."

JinHwa has been interested in architecture and design for as long as she can remember, always curious about how and why architects create buildings. From the shiny skyscrapers of Seoul to ancient pagodas in Myanmar, JinHwa developed an appreciation, during a childhood spent across Asia and Europe, for how architecture can evoke emotion and represent people, culture, and home. After earning her masters in architecture, she got her start on the design team for a massive urban convention center, an experience that led her to search for work on a more human scale. She found the right place when she joined Perkins Eastman in 2004 and began working on senior living, hospitality, and multi-residential projects; she’s practiced in those areas ever since.

JinHwa is especially talented at leading projects from master plan and concept design through construction, with solid experience investigating solutions to problems in the field. She offers keen insight into design philosophies and cross-industry trends, and her experience with a diverse mix of client types provides her senior living clients in particular with design solutions that are beyond the typical approach.

Our Perkins Eastman

JinHwa is passionate about sustainable design because it plays a critical role in human wellness. She was a founding member of both the Chicago studio’s and firmwide Sustainability Group, which she led for more than ten years and where she is still active. Currently, she leads a committee to promote design culture in Chicago, firmwide, and across the senior living practice.
