Duncan Reid

“I’m thrilled to bring our healthcare expertise to projects overseas, in countries like India, United Arab Emirates, China, and South America. What’s so interesting is understanding how the local culture and context can inform how we design a facility’s functional and operational layouts.”

Whether it’s in healthcare, higher-ed, workplace or residential design, Duncan works with our clients to shape spaces that will enrich the lives of those who will live, learn, heal, and grow within them. With more than 30 years of experience, he effectively translates the client’s goals to his design team, helping them find solutions to challenges with building plan, site or program accommodation.

Duncan joined Perkins Eastman in 2002 and helped Co-Founder Brad Perkins focus on international work and grow the business in China. He led the design efforts with the AIA-award winning Chongqing Library, followed by office and retail buildings in Beijing. Now, his primary focus overseas is with healthcare design where he is passionate about the master planning of medical campuses, as with the AIIMS teaching hospitals or with a wellness city in Ecuador. “We’re able to create an environment that provides for the teaching, the practice, and the research behind the new ideas that will drive medicine into the future,” he says.

Our Perkins Eastman

Duncan has been instrumental in helping the firm grow its global healthcare practice. He is also passionate about helping student interns and young architects develop their skills and providing them opportunities to thrive. He helped define the Perkins Eastman summer internship program, which forged strong links between Perkins Eastman and numerous architecture schools across the country. He’s served on design juries at numerous institutions, including Cornell University, Pratt Institute, the New Jersey Institute of Technology, and Washington University in St. Louis, among others.
