Working with the New York City Department of General Services—now the New York City Department of Design and Construction—Perkins Eastman designed an innovative facility that helped define the modern courthouse. Responding to community concerns and reflecting its neighborhood surroundings, the building became a new benchmark for court design in New York City. The building contains a multitude of courtrooms of various sizes including spaces for civil, housing, calendar, and small claims courts. The facility also houses the jury selection facilities for this courthouse and the adjacent Supreme Court, offices for court operations, offices for the Corporation Council, and a parking garage.
