To serve the Brooklyn Supreme and Family Courts, Perkins Eastman designed a new 32-story courthouse at MetroTech Center in downtown Brooklyn. Working with the City of New York and Forest City Ratner Companies, the design team provided feasibility studies, programming, court planning, and full architectural and interior design services. The complex facility has courtrooms, hearing rooms, assembly rooms, detention areas, and support spaces designed to accommodating an extremely high volume of visitors to the facility on a daily basis. Offices for many city agencies and departments including the Administration for Children’s Services, Probation, NYPD, Department of Corrections, Legal Aid, Victims Services, Corporation Counsel, and the Health Department are located throughout the building, which also contains six floors of developer-owned spec office space. With separate entrances and vertical circulation, the building is envisioned to be used for future court expansions.
