Emily calls herself “a big history nerd.” Her favorite childhood family vacations were the ones where she got to explore old house museums. Add in a gift for math and science, and she used that love of houses and history to pursue undergraduate and graduate degrees in architecture. A graduate-school internship at ForrestPerkins, however, introduced her to the world of hospitality interiors, working on a project that combined historic preservation, adaptive re-use and new construction for hotels. “It brought everything together that I loved,” she says. Emily worked with hotel and hospitality clients for nine years before moving into multi-residential projects, which has been her focus since 2012. As the co-practice leader for ForrestPerkins’ Washington, DC, studio, she works with developers on apartment and condominium projects up and down the east coast and across the country. A combined M.Arch-MBA, furthermore, gives her an eye for management and finance, which helps her understand her clients’ perspective from a budget as well as design point of view.
