Joe Drown

AIA

Principal

“I believe disruption is the natural course of inquiry in the evolution of design.”

Joe believes that education is the cornerstone of society. He’s focused his practice on educational environments for 30 years, designing and building public libraries, schools and university buildings. The majority of his practice involves primary and secondary public schools; as principal in charge and senior project manager, he works closely with multiple community stakeholders so the architecture can be grounded in their present needs and future aspirations. His last several school projects have been urban based, allowing him to fulfill a longtime desire to contribute to the equity of underserved communities. Improving the built environment, he says, is directly related to the health of its larger community.

Our Perkins Eastman

Joe is active in grooming the next generation of architects both inside and outside the firm. He participates in Perkins Eastman’s People Mentoring Program, and he regularly challenges his educational-practice team to step out of their comfort zone in the pursuit of excellence, helping them to gain experience and the confidence to succeed.
