In an era defined by measures enacted to keep residents and staff physically safe, most of us are wondering if these current disruptions will generate long-term changes in design and operations for senior living. This survey, the fifth in a biennial series, focuses on short-term micro and macro shocks from COVID-19. It also explores long-term trends and how they all may intersect, current cultural shifts, potential industry disruptors, and evolving consumer preferences. This study consists of two parallel efforts: a quantitative survey completed by approximately 200 industry professionals, and a series of qualitative interviews conducted with over 80 industry leaders. Overall, the survey and interviews demonstrate that there are divergent views on the current health of the industry. There is consensus, however, that the COVID-19 pandemic has also revealed opportunity for positive change.
