Kim’s multicultural heritage and international travels exposed her to various architectural styles and environments during her upbringing along the west coast, shaping her perception of existing buildings. Regardless of a building’s current state, it has a history that informs its future in the built environment. Being the daughter of an antiques dealer, she grew up understanding that the stories of antiques and discarded objects became part of their new refreshed life. Kim has carried this same ethos into her architectural education and practice. Her passion for history and conservation, combined with her architectural expertise, allows her to balance aspects of being an architectural historian and a practicing architect.

Kim believes that understanding a building’s past is crucial to guiding its future development. In her work, Kim combines meticulous research, thoughtful design, and careful execution to ensure that every building she works on retains its character while serving a modern purpose. With each project she undertakes, Kim reaffirms her commitment to preserving our architectural heritage and making it relevant for future generations.
