Cal State Los Angeles commissioned a master-plan study and to design the new Center for Academic Success for the 1960s JFK Memorial Library, a 347,000-sf library with two wings: the 1958 Palmer Wing and the 1969 Library North.
Re-imagining the existing library not only entailed visually tying two library buildings together; it involved planning the partnerships and occupants within the building. The library and the proposed forum operate synergistically to allow students to make discoveries through cross-disciplinary discussions and to recast the library as a catalyst for academic excellence with a strong, shared sense of community.
Phase 1 includes the creation of the Center for Academic Success, a fully integrated peer-to-peer student academic services center that will be a first of its kind for the CSU system and a national model.
This project was master planned and designed by Pfeiffer prior to joining Perkins Eastman.
