With its strong focus on all aspects of wellness, Rockwood supports social, physical, vocational, and educational activities that positively impact its residents. Perkins Eastman’s design for The Summit creates those spaces, while being the first senior living community to also incorporate biophilic design principles to connect residents to the natural environment. The new building interlocks seamlessly with the existing building transforming existing non-descript boxy spaces into flowing inter-related opportunities for gathering. To create a better entry experience and encouraging total resident interaction, a reoriented entrance faces the campus estate homes. A new tower of larger units aligns to market desires and financially supports the whole project. Developed through a collaborative process with Rockwood, its residents, and executive architect NAC, the design includes a conference center and activity rooms, a range of dining options, and fitness and spa amenities. The Summit is a reimagined, sustainable living environment where residents have reported improvements in overall wellness and engagement since the design was implemented.
