Anthology Apartments

Issaquah, WA

New housing and land conservation go hand-in-hand in an expanding Seattle suburb.

Anthology is a 400-unit development spread across 19 buildings in Central Issaquah. The site, much of which was former farmland and wetlands, presented the development and design teams with a unique challenge: providing much-needed, family friendly housing in the growing Issaquah market while committing to the preservation of lush public parklands and wetlands. As a continuation of downtown Issaquah’s steady development march westwards, the Anthology apartments seamlessly integrate into their ecological surroundings while meeting these demands. The site layout is organized along modes of circulation that prioritize pedestrians, creating a sense of place and identity while employing sustainable design principles where possible.

This project establishes a pedestrian-oriented street network that opens up new connections between neighborhoods that help the area transition from low-intensity suburban use to a regional urban center. The development is one of the first projects to go forward under the newly approved Central Issaquah Plan and seamlessly connects to the adjacent Revel seniors community development just to the north, creating a flourishing inter-generational neighborhood.

This project was completed by VIA prior to becoming a Perkins Eastman Studio.
