An institution committed to research and providing broad access to technological and professional education, City Tech serves a diverse urban population. Perkins Eastman designed a new academic complex for the school’s downtown-Brooklyn campus that improves the face of City Tech and enhances the surrounding neighborhood. The design team created a sustainable, vibrant hub where science, health, and entertainment technologies can collaborate and co-exist. Predominantly serving the college’s allied health programs, the new center includes classrooms, laboratories, clinics, and support spaces as well as a massive theater and gymnasium. The team designed the building to reinforce City Tech’s emphasis on building applied skills and promoting an understanding of technology’s social context to foster an atmosphere of inclusion and collaboration. Developing a new approach to design for inter-professional education and interdisciplinary discovery, the team’s vision comes to life as an integral component of the Brooklyn Tech Triangle, the city’s largest cluster of tech and innovation activity outside of Manhattan. City Tech also completes the Perkins Eastman master plan and urban design for the central core of this innovation and technology hub that has significantly contributed to the revitalization of downtown Brooklyn.
