Terrapin Row

College Park, Maryland
Terrapin Row is a three-building, 1500-bed student housing development at the University of Maryland.  The developer, Toll Brothers, was looking to differentiate Terrapin Row from its competitors; so after completing a successful design of a luxury apartment building at the DC waterfront for them, ForrestPerkins was invited to use our hospitality and multi-family expertise in the interior design of this high-end student housing project.  Inspiration for the design was drawn from blending the warmth of home with the rigors of academics and the latest trends shaping these students’ eventual workplaces.  Areas of study, including intimate “hubs” for small groups along with larger open study lounges, are paired with areas for play, including game rooms, on-site fitness center, and courtyard spaces.  A palette of warm materials, including reclaimed woods and brick walls, and pops of bright colors, including red and orange hexagon-shaped carpet tiles, combine with clean lines to give the interiors a fresh face with all of the comfort of home.  Custom graphic murals designed by ForrestPerkins and dynamic sculptural lighting are used throughout the public spaces to convey the energy of the student population.
