The Al Jazeera Television Network, based in Doha, Qatar, is broadcast in 130 countries and reaches a global audience of 250 million households, with some 70 news bureaus. Initially launched as an Arabic-language news network in 1996, Al Jazeera has since expanded its reach to include internet and specialty television channels broadcast in multiple languages. As a key component to the Media Network’s recent rebranding and continued international expansion into new markets, Al Jazeera now boasts a series of new and expanded campus facilities designed by Perkins Eastman.

Al Jazeera English Channel’s main news gathering and television broadcast operation in Doha is a 85,000 sf installation that includes a new air newsroom, production studio, and virtual studio that broadcasts high-definition programming. The facility accommodates 450 staff. The firm also provided designs for the network’s English Channel broadcast in London, which was founded in 2006, with a mission to cover news and events in under-reported regions across the globe to the English-speaking world.

The Al Jazeera Commonwealth Centre, also located on the main Doha campus, is a 9,800 sm (105,486 sf) building comprising four levels that are organized by dining, wellness, work, and creative functions. The Centre unifies the campus via the “Corniche” - a three-level corridor that connects the buildings and creates access to public areas. Other design elements—including the Unity Plaza, mosque, new restaurant, 300-seat cafeteria, lounges and café areas, library, fitness center, and full-service spa—emphasize the Network’s person-centered approach and accommodate the network’s continuous 24/7 news/work cycle.
