Perkins Eastman | C.C. Young

C.C. Young

Dallas, Texas
As part of the strategic visioning plan created for C.C. Young, Perkins Eastman designed The Overlook, a new 208,000 sf six-story independent-living community. The residence offers 108 one- and two-bedroom apartments ranging in size from 750 sf to 2,200 sf, and a first-floor town center that features two resident dining venues, main kitchen, salon, family room, employee center, and administrative space.

A connection to nature is a focal point of the building. Residents enjoy scenic views of White Rock Lake Park and downtown Dallas from their homes. Outdoor space includes public and private landscaped terraces complemented by an esplanade and paved seating plaza immediately north of the residence. The residence is adjacent to The Point, the campus’s dynamic intergenerational center for arts and education, also designed by Perkins Eastman. This standalone center for arts and education at C.C. Young offers a fresh concept for a senior activity center, attracting both residents and the surrounding intergenerational community with a distinct identity and innovative programming.

The 20,000 sf building was designed to create an environment “where the spirit is ageless.” The facility serves this mission through a strong emphasis on the arts and holistic wellness. Spaces within the center correspond to one of three specific focal points—mind, body, spirit—and play host to highly interactive programs that welcome people of all ages. The mind is nourished through use of The Point’s library, computer lab, and multipurpose classrooms; the body through the café and fitness center; and the spirit through the facility’s performance hall, art studios, meditation room, and outdoor sculpture garden.
