Nova Place

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Positioned within a growing neighborhood that provides the next generation live, work, and play urban development, Nova Place is located on the Northside within walking distance of the cultural epicenter of Pittsburgh. This a dynamic, mixed-use urban thoroughfare provides tenants with ready access to the Children’s Museum, the Mattress Factory, PNC Park, Heinz Field, the Warhol Museum, the Aviary and Science Center, the Hazlett Theater, Allegheny Commons Park, and the nearby Park View Apartments.

Recognizing the advantages of this site, Faros Properties undertook the ambitious high-tech repositioning of the former Allegheny Center—the first a failed urban mall and later an underperforming office complex—into a new district that converges art, technology, food, and culture to serve both office tenants and the adjacent community.

Perkins Eastman provided professional services for several projects totaling over 60,000 sf of interior renovation in various areas of the building, including new fitness and conference centers. Additionally, the team reimagined the former 500’ long shopping mall concourse into a central hub of common areas and lounge spaces, complete with soft seating and upscale food and beverage purveyors. This provides an ideal environment for informal meetings, brainstorming, or simply taking a short break to recharge. The concourse is ringed by an upper level mezzanine and capped by a barrel vaulted roof 45’ above. The design promotes a simple storefront glazing system that permits views into the new interior spaces and activates the edge of a new outdoor plaza. Nova Place is open to both the tenants, as well as the surrounding community to provide access to resources and provide connectivity by activating a former underutilized structure.
