Renaissance Technologies Corporation

Stony Brook, New York
For more than seven years Perkins Eastman has completed four design phases of an office campus that houses the headquarters of Renaissance Technologies, a highly regarded money management firm. The architects’ objective was to provide a stimulating working atmosphere that includes a variety of working conditions, ranging from private offices and meeting rooms to spaces for more public activities and informal uses.

All office spaces are private and feature blond wood ceilings and large wood-framed windows overlooking landscaped gardens and forest area; the building’s distinctive wings hold trading rooms and administrative areas. Held between the courtyards are two large exposed glulam beams that cover the dining and conference rooms on the east end. To the west is the library, lounge, and gym—the latter having access to tennis courts and a running track that winds through the landscape.

A new office wing complements the original Perkins Eastman-designed corporate headquarters facility with large wood windows for each office, while understating the on-site addition. The program includes a serene central courtyard; a state-of-the-art board room to accommodate the firm’s continued growth; a 7,000 sf data center with N+1 redundant HVAC systems; and a fitness facility that includes an indoor tennis court, squash courts, weight room, and indoor soccer area/half-court basketball space.
