Episcopal Communities and Services: MonteCedro

Altadena, California
The Episcopal Home Communities offers California residents three communities with a continuum of excellent care, services, and spiritual enrichment: Scripps-Kensington, The Covington, and The Canterbury. In response to changes in the retirement market, Episcopal Home Communities decided to sell the Scripps-Kensington campus and develop a new campus on the former Scripps site to carry on a tradition of long-term, high-quality service over a continuum of care.

Perkins Eastman was selected to provide the planning and design services for this new community, which offers 132 one- and two-bedroom apartment homes, 54 villa residences, 20 assisted-living residences as well as memory-support suites and coordinated in-home care services. Nestled on an eight-acre site in the foothills of Altadena, MonteCedro offers such community amenities as a fitness center, fine and casual dining options, creative arts studio, library, and art rooms.

Architectural features capture elements of early California, Spanish Colonial, and Mediterranean motifs. Public spaces and private residences open onto the community’s landscaped grounds and courtyards, where many mature trees have been preserved.
