Wuhan International Education Center

Wuhan, China
The Wuhan International Education Center is a 30,000 sm campus located on a greenfield site in Wuhan, China. The project required two schools to be relocated from Wuhan to the new site. Nine hundred students, ranging from K through 12, are now taught in an English Language School for 600 students, offering an American-based curriculum and AP program, and a French Language School for 300 students.

The campus is comprised of several four to five story academic and arts pavilions, organized around a central green, fostering community and encouraging a village-like atmosphere. The plan allows each school to operate autonomously, but encourages interaction between the students wherever possible. A central axis connects the academic areas to the landscaped terraces and down to the regulation soccer pitch, which is shared by both schools. The dynamic geometry of the Sports and Arts Center building creates a striking visual from the main street, and forms an architectural billboard for the school, functioning as a symbolic gateway for the campus.
