Dubai Port, Customs and Free Zone Corporation retained Perkins Eastman to design the revitalization and modernization of three working fishing villages along the Dubai coast totaling 5.6 hectares (13.8 acres). The primary mission of the project was to provide better facilities and housing for the fisherman, preserving the heritage of the fisherman and village while encouraging cultural tourism. The program includes housing, Majlis and prayer hall, a boatyard, storage facilities, work sheds, fish handling structures, and a souk. Perkins Eastman provided schematic and design development level services.
