Perkins Eastman | Hilton Colon Hotel

Hilton Colon Hotel

Guayaquil, Ecuador
The Hilton Colon hotel is Ecuador’s largest hotel located in the city of Guayaquil. This 294-key hotel hosts both business travelers as well as tourists headed to the Galapagos Islands. The original building was completed in 1997, and Perkins Eastman completed the first major renovation and repositioning of this property. The scope of the 1,900 sm (20,467 sf) renovation includes a new reception lobby and atrium, general public spaces and corridors, and three new restaurants. The goal was to unify the property and bring it up to modern standards while taking advantage of some opportunities not realized in the original design.

Each restaurant was carefully designed to complement the three varied menus. Café Colon is a 24-hour restaurant with a broad menu designed as a well-lit, welcoming marketplace; Vereda Tropical is an Argentinean steak house; and Portofino was designed as a smaller, more intimate Italian gourmet restaurant.

The new design unifies the hotel while improving lighting and finishes that the original construction was not able to achieve 12 years earlier. In the reception area, the large formal desk was improved by breaking it down into a series of discrete kiosks, allowing patrons to have closer more personal contact with hotel staff.
