Perkins Eastman was awarded design of the Thurgood Marshall US Courthouse restoration and modernization by the General Services Administration (GSA). Designed by Cass Gilbert, the architect of the US Treasury and Supreme Court Buildings in Washington DC, the Marshall Courthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a designated New York City Landmark. The 611,000 sf building houses 600 federal employees of the US District Court and US Court of Appeals.

The modernization and restoration work included restoration of building exterior elements, improvements to provide handicapped accessibility; restoration of historic courtrooms; design of judicial chambers and court offices; restoration of historic interior finishes; upgrade of building systems infrastructure and integration of seismic improvements into the courthouse.
