Concordia International School Shanghai

Shanghai, China
To meet the growing facility needs of this premier educational institution, Concordia International School Shanghai (CISS) selected Perkins Eastman to plan, design, and implement a series of phased expansions to their existing campus. The master plan includes an addition to the existing elementary school, a new performing arts pavilion, and a 12,500 sm (129,200 sf) addition to the high school.

The new 6,000 sm (64,600 sf) elementary school is a fully self-contained 500-student environment that supports the curriculum, enhances teaching, fosters creativity, and stimulates artistic exploration through improved interaction between pre-K through fourth grade students and teachers. The new 2,250 sm (24,000 sf) David F. Rittmann Fine Arts Center incorporates both presentation and learning environments and includes a 400-seat courtyard theater and black box space.

As the final phase, the new sustainably designed high school integrates academic, athletic, and administrative spaces and embraces the latest trends in educational design and collaborative learning. The program comprises classrooms, science suite, world language lab, library, and seminar/group instruction rooms of varying sizes. The gymnasium contains an interactive space called the PE commons, which combines traditional physical education with modern wellness instruction.
