Centria: 18 West 48th Street

New York, New York
As part of a multi-disciplinary team led by developer J.D. Carlisle, Perkins Eastman designed a new 34-story luxury residential development overlooking Rockefeller Center Plaza in the heart of midtown Manhattan. The 160,000 sf tower contains 152 condominium units ranging from 630 to 1,260 sf. The mix of studios, one- , and two-bedroom apartments is designed to appeal to a very specific clientele from the international business market.

The exterior of the building is clad predominantly in a glass curtain wall made of tinted glass that changes color depending upon the light. The resulting combination of transparency, translucency, and opaqueness will reflect the interior program and a need for privacy while maximizing spectacular views. This is the largest application of this material in the commercial market.

Apartments are modern and serene, fitted with high-end luxury finishes. The ground floor contains a restaurant, while the second floor houses various resident amenities including a conference center, a club room, and a lounge.
