Perkins Eastman | Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center

New York, New York
For more than twenty years, Perkins Eastman has assisted MSKCC in renewing and expanding facilities to reflect their world-renowned status as a leader in cancer care. Major projects:

Ambulatory Surgery (M2): Interior design for 45,380 sf of operating rooms with patient transport corridors, PACU/Surgery Recovery Area, reception, waiting area, patient and visitor elevator lobbies, consultation offices, medical business office suites, and nurses’ offices. The palette draws from the hospitality setting of the Surgical Pavilion, modernized for patient and family comfort and to the highest finish standards for immune-depressed healing environments.

Surgical Platform: Added over existing buildings, a 70,000 sf (6,500 sm) addition with 21 operating rooms; new patient intake; and family, staff, and recovery spaces.

Bone Marrow Transplant Unit: Renovation of 17,000 sf (1,600 sm) nursing floor to provide special care for immune-depressed patients, with special HEPA filtration and highly cleanable finishes while creating a welcoming, long-stay nursing unit.

Women’s Services Nursing Unit: Renovation of 17,000 sf (1,600 sm) nursing floor designed specifically for women. The 42-bed unit has a patient library and lounge where programs such as physical therapy for mastectomy patients and “Look Good Feel Better” classes for patients with hair loss are conducted. The unit also has a visitor lounge designed to be comfortable for men.

Genito Urinary Nursing Unit: Full renovation of an existing 17,000 sf (1,600 sm) inpatient unit to house 41 patients in nine private and 16 semiprivate rooms. Clinical spaces include an examination room, open-plan nurse station, conference room, and support spaces.

Special Inpatient Suites: Renovation of 17,000 sf (1,600 sm) nursing floor designed for patients with special needs including supplemented accommodations, security, and privacy. The project is a luxury hospitality environment that meets all the requirements of an acute care inpatient unit. Fourteen patient units include deluxe rooms and two-room suites. Common areas include a lounge, a library, and a front desk with security and concierge services.

Guttman Institute: Renovation of an outpatient diagnostic center for cancer patients, mammography services, and screening for cervical and prostate cancers.

International Center: Off-site renovation of 12,000 sf (1,100 sm) of former bank space to house international patient admissions and reception center.

Laurence S. Rockefeller Pavilion: MSKCC’s first off-site outpatient pavilion, a 200,000 sf (18,600 sm), 11-story facility with diagnostic, treatment, and post-surgical programs. The thoughtful, warm design takes patient-focused concepts to their furthest extension and provides a high-quality environment with thoughtful patient amenities.
