Case Study 5:
Laclede GrovesSt. Louis, MIssouri
In 2010, Lutheran Senior Services engaged Perkins Eastman to improve their Laclede Groves senior living community. The existing campus had evolved over decades from a Catholic convent to a continuing care retirement community. The buildings added to the campus each had its complement of social and activity spaces. However, the community that had evolved was fragmented, both in terms of physical spaces as well as (actual and perceived) barriers between levels of care and service. In addition, the location of common spaces was scattered, circulation was confusing, and the physical environment thwarted the sense of community at every turn.
